How are your trees looking? Now that spring has officially sprung for most everywhere it’s a great time to take inventory of your trees. And knowing how and when to prune trees is important. This past winter we moved in to a new house and had no idea what sort of vegetation our yard would sprout up in the spring. We were surprised and delighted to see beautiful flowering trees (my favorite!), tulips, and hydrangea bushes. However, we also had a cold snap of -20 for a couple weeks this winter and lost several trees and various branches. We got the pruners out this past weekend and got to work on those dead branches. What I didn’t realize is there is an optimal time to prune trees, a correct way to do it, and you have to be careful not to spread disease to your trees.
